PELHAM, NY (May 24, 2023) — Last night, several members of the Pelham Fire Department and Police Department were honored with a life-saving award from the Westchester REMSCO (Regional EMS Council). The award was given to Fire Captain DeSimone, Firefighter Borsella, Police Sergeant Hendrie, Police Officer Baerga, Police Officer Burrell, and Paramedic Orpikowski for their collaborative efforts in saving a life.

In June of last year, these first responders arrived on the scene of an unconscious male who was suffering from an overdose. The Village of Pelham PD administered a dosage of Narcan and upon the arrival of the Village of Pelham FD, another dosage was given. The patient began to regain consciousness and was talking by the time 38Medic1 arrived. Advanced life support procedures were established for transport to the hospital.

The patient fully recovered due to the collaborative efforts of everyone involved. The Westchester REMSCO acknowledged their efforts with this award.
