NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 25, 2023) —
Amidst conflicting reports from well-placed sources, New Rochelle Police pulled either a body or an unresponsive person from the waters at Hudson Park; in the latter account, a person was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital and their condition is unknown; there may be another involved person in custody as well.
At this point there is no official, on the record account, as NRPD is taking the lead on this incident and, as of 3:30 am Friday, New Rochelle Police remain tight-lipped.
In response to calls to to NRPD headquarters at about 10:15 pm and another at about 3:30 am, police personnel would only say the matter is in the hands of detectives from the General Investigation Unit, that no information would be provided because it was considered an ongoing investigation, that there would be a press release available in the morning.
The condition of the person taken from the water remains unclear at this time.
One well-placed source confirmed, on background, a body was pulled out of the water at Hudson Park. Another well-placed source said the incident was not considered a body recovery because NRPD pulled a person from the harbor, gave CPR on the way to NRPD dock, then NRFD and EMS continued resuscitation efforts and transported the person to Montefiore.
A full official account will have to wait until NRPD issues their formal statement. We will update this article with that information as soon as we have the NRPD statement.
