New Rochelle Teenager Arrested for Intentional Hit-and-Run

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (June 1, 2023) — On May 31st, 2023, at about 10:26 pm, New Rochelle Police responded to the area of 149 North Avenue on a report of a serious motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian where the driver left the scene. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local trauma center where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Further investigation revealed that the driver and pedestrian were familiar with one another and that this collision was intentional. Detectives were able to locate the driver, a 17-year-old New Rochelle resident, and place him under arrest. The investigation is ongoing. The name of the victim, a 43-year-old male New Rochelle resident, is being withheld at this time pending full notification of his family.

The 17-year-old male juvenile New Rochelle resident (name withheld due to juvenile status) has been arrested and charged with Assault — 1, a B Felony.

In New York, a first-degree assault (using a deadly weapon and serious injury) has a prison term of up to 25 years and a fine of up to $5,000. It is a class B violent felony, carrying a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 5 years for a first offender.
