MAMARONECK, NY (June 6, 2023) —- A routine traffic stop in the Village of Mamaroneck led to the arrest of a New Rochelle man for possession of a loaded handgun. On June 5th at approximately 2:29 PM, a Village of Mamaroneck K-9 Officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the 700 block of Mamaroneck Avenue when he observed a vehicle with an expired Florida temporary registration. The officer conducted a traffic stop and, based on the driver’s demeanor during the initial interview, retrieved his K-9 partner Ike to conduct an exterior “sniff” of the vehicle for narcotics.

Ike indicated the presence of narcotics and upon being informed of this, the driver spontaneously admitted to having a firearm in the vehicle. Both the driver and his front seat passenger were detained for further investigation. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9 MM semi-automatic handgun.

Paul Wright, 25, of New Rochelle, NY
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon — 2nd, a C Felony
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon — 3rd, a D Felony (as the handgun contained 11 rounds of ammunition)
Wright was held pending arraignment in Village of Mamaroneck Court. The front seat passenger was released with no charges after being interviewed by VMPD Detectives.
