Officer Involved Shooting in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (July 3, 2023) — A man was shot by a New Rochelle Police officer this afternoon at the intersection of North Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

The New Rochelle Police Department has not issued a statement as there is an active investigation.

We have been receiving unconfirmed information about the incident and aftermath.

In a breaking news situation, information is fluid and can change but for now here is what our sources tell us. We have names but are not releasing them at this time.

  • The shooting victim is a male/black in his 30’s.
  • The incident may involve an EDP (emotionally disturbed person).
  • The shooting victim is from New Rochelle and is known in the community.
  • The shooter was a white, female police officer.
  • The incident began with a report of a shoplifting incident at New Rochelle Farms grocery store at 465 North Avenue.
  • As police questioned the suspect/shooting victim, he reached for the female officer’s gun.
  • The shooting victim was flown by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center.
  • There should be multiple body cam videos which many hope will be made public right away.
