Fight at Mamaroneck Gas Station Leads to Arrest of 2 Suspects with Car Stolen in Ohio

MAMARONECK, NY (September 4, 2023) — An uninvolved person called the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department to report a man and woman fighting at the Shell Gas Station, at 974 Mamaroneck Avenue.

On Friday, September 1, 2023, at 9:25 AM, the witness told police they observed a man and woman fighting The witness told the couple that he was going to call the police and they immediately fled the scene. VMPD officers responded to the scene and located a 2018 Ford Focus with an Ohio registration abandoned at the gas station. Officers discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen in Akron, Ohio on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Officers immediately obtained descriptions of the suspects and provided the details to additional officers and detectives canvassing the area. Officers from the Larchmont Police Department, Town of Mamaroneck Police Department, City of Rye Police Department, MTA Police, New York State Police, Harrison Police Department, and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety responded and assisted with the investigation.

At 9:48 AM, an officer was flagged down by a civilian who stated that the male suspect just attempted to steal a vehicle in the 400 block of Mamaroneck Avenue.

At 9:51 AM, officers located the male suspect on West Boston Post Road and placed him under arrest. At 9:59 AM, officers located the female suspect on Willow Street and placed her under arrest.

Arrests & Charges:

Rafael Castillo, 34, of Kissimmee, Florida

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property – 4
  • Robbery – 3
  • Criminal Mischief – 4

Megan Vallee, 32, of Akron, Ohio

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property – 4

Both defendants were arraigned in Village of Mamaroneck Court and due to their extensive criminal history, they were remanded to the Westchester Department of Corrections.
