NEW ROCHELLE, NY (September 7, 2023) — Pearl Quarles, 92, passed away on Wednesday, her family has announced.
We will publish additional details here when they become available.
Quarles had innumerable accomplishments and was widely known and respected throughout Westchester County and beyond.
She was the first African-American President of the New Rochelle Board of Education and first African-American Woman elected as Westchester County Legislator.
She took a star turn in her 80’s as a media darling in a series of devastating “Westchester Can’t Afford Noam Bramson” political ads which help propel Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino to a second term.
Here is what people are saying on social media.
Pearl Quarles was a trailblazing figure in Westchester County who made a profound impact in county government, the New Rochelle School Board, and the civil rights movement. I first got to know her well in 2014 when running @RobAstorino’s campaign for Governor. pic.twitter.com/BW5Zm941rw
