NEW ROCHELLE, NY (November 6, 2023) — A married couple from New Rochelle are facing criminal charges after a verbal altercation over an unleashed dog turned violent.

Police narrative:

At 12:17 p.m. on Sunday, Westchester County Police received a 911 call from a woman who reported that she had been assaulted at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation during a dispute with two people over an unleashed dog. The victim reported that she was walking on a trail when an unleashed dog ran up behind her. She told the apparent owners of the dog that it needed to be on a leash and an argument broke out, followed by a physical altercation.

The victim is a Ridgefield, Conn., woman in her 50s. She was initially assisted by two other park patrons, who came upon the victim bleeding from a head wound on a walking trail. The pair did not witness the incident but gave the victim a phone so she could call 911.

The victim was treated at the scene by the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and then transported to Northern Westchester Hospital Center.

Dawn Reich is accused of striking the victim in the head, causing a laceration and knocking her down.

Steven Reich is accused of breaking the victim’s cell phone by smashing it against a rock.
