MAMARONECK, NY (August 25, 2024) — A woman walking across Mamaroneck Avenue was struck by a vehicle by a driver who fled the scene but was chased down by a witness and held until police arrived.
On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at approximately 10:31 am, the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department received
multiple 911 calls regarding a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian on Mamaroneck Avenue at Prospect
Avenue. The victim, a 67-year-old female from Mamaroneck, was crossing Mamaroneck Avenue from west to east, in the crosswalk, when she was struck by a vehicle making a left turn from Prospect Avenue. The motorist
involved left the scene after striking the pedestrian and did not stop to check on the pedestrian nor call 911 to report the accident.
Officers responded to the scene and located the vehicle and driver, who had been stopped by a motorist in a vehicle who witnessed the accident.
Arrest & Charges
The driver, unidentified by police, is a 22-year-old female from Larchmont, NY
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving a Personal Injury, a Class A Misdemeanor
- Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk, a traffic infraction.
She was released on her own recognizance with a future court date.
