NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 23, 2024) — A vacancy has arisen on the New Rochelle City Court from the resignation of City Court Judge Matthew Costa. The vacancy will be filled on an interim basis until the end of next year through an appointment by Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert.
The New Rochelle Mayor issued a statement seeking applications.
“The City of New Rochelle is accepting applications to fill a vacancy for a city court judge position,” said Yadira Ramos-Herbert. “To be considered for this appointment, interested candidates must be admitted to practice law in the State of New York for at least five years; and be a resident of the City of New Rochelle. These requirements are statutory and are not subject to modification.”
“This is an interim appointment that will expire on December 31, 2025. Interested candidates must submit a resume, cover letter and the names as well as contact information for at least four legal references via email (mayorsoffice@newrochelleny.com). Please write Judicial Vacancy in the subject line. The deadline to submit application materials is Monday, November 4, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.”
This particular City Court Judgeship has been an elected position, but the timing of the vacancy is such that the interim appointment will be made by the Mayor.
