NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 29, 2024) — A call by New Rochelle police to the Mobile Crisis Response Team did not go as hoped when a woman threatened to shoot officers after they called the MCRT to the scene. A search revealed the woman was carrying a concealed, loaded firearm. She is facing multiple criminal charges.
On Saturday October 26th, 2024, at about 1:28 pm, New Rochelle Police responded to a
report of two women engaged in a physical altercation in front of Bethesda Baptist Church located at 71 Lincoln Avenue.
Initially assessed as a routine call, the situation quickly revealed underlying complexities.
Upon arrival, officers found one of the women visibly agitated and uncooperative. In an effort to assist the woman in calming down, our officers called the Mobile Crisis Response Team to provide assistance. However, the individual declined help and made a direct threat toward the officers, stating she would “pop” them, a phrase widely understood to imply violent intent.
During the investigation, officers discovered that the woman was in possession of a loaded
handgun at the time she issued the threat. The situation was carefully managed by our officers, who demonstrated professionalism without having to use force during the encounter.
