RYE, NY (December 2, 2024) — On November 27, between the hours of 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm, The City of Rye Police Department conducted a “Cops in Shops” operation at Chestnut Mobil located at 69 Theodore Fremd Avenue.

“Cops in Shops” is an undercover operation in which police officers in plain clothes

pose as customers or store employees in order to detect under aged persons attempting to purchase, using false identifications to obtain alcoholic beverages or alcohol theft. 60 subjects were checked for proper identification when purchasing alcoholic beverages, 22 ABC violations were issued and 15 fake ID’s were seized during the operation.

From 10:00 pm until 4:00 am on November 28, 2024 officers concentrated on the

downtown district focusing on issues such as overcrowding in our local bars to

underage drinking. During the initiative officers operated in a mix of marked and

unmarked units canvassing the area for underage drinking, disorderly conduct, and

other alcohol related City Code Violations. Several times throughout the night officers changed the focus from enforcement to safety, assisting local businesses with

overcrowding and crowd control.
