Brooklyn Man Busted for Passing Funny Money in Rye

RYE, NY (December 22, 2024) — On November 22, City of Rye Police Officers responded to All Paws Gourmet Pet Store and a retail store, Sammy and Nat, located on Purchase Street.

Both locations reported that an individual paid them using multiple counterfeit twenty dollar bills.

The investigation was turned over to Rye Detectives who identified 23-year-old Elijah Gay of Brooklyn, New York as the person who passed the counterfeit bills at both businesses.

With the assistance of the New York City Probation Department, Gay was picked up on December 18 based an arrest warrant out of Rye City Court on.

Gay was transported to Rye Police Headquarters where he was processed by Detectives. He was charged with two counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st Degree, a Class C Felony as well as two counts of Petit Larceny.

Gay was arraigned in Rye City Court. He was remanded to the Westchester County Correctional Facility. His next scheduled court date is on Tuesday December 24 at 9:00 am.
