NEW ROCHELLE, NY (January 7, 2025) — New Rochelle Police have identified David Smith, 22 years of age, of Mount Vernon, NY as the victim of a fatal shooting on Rhoda Quash Lane at the Heritage Home residential complex in New Rochelle.
Preliminary information suggests that the shooter and the victim knew each other, and that the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute; the nature of this dispute is unknown at this time.
On January 6th, 2025, at about 10:49 am, the New Rochelle Police Department responded to a fatal shooting that occurred on Rhoda Quash Lane located in the Heritage Homes Complex.
At approximately 10:49 am, New Rochelle Police received reports of shots fired in the area of Rhoda Quash Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 22-year-old male victim from Mount Vernon, NY, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest.
Responding New Rochelle Police Officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid until the victim was transported to a local hospital; he was later pronounced deceased.
New Rochelle Detectives also quickly responded to the scene and began their investigation. Shortly thereafter, New Rochelle Detectives identified several persons of interest and brought them to New Rochelle Police Headquarters for questioning. They also apprehended another suspect later when he sought medical treatment, in the Bronx, for a gunshot wound to his hand. He was taken into custody without incident.
Multiple handguns were found in relation to this case and information on these weapons will be mentioned in a subsequent press release.
