North Avenue Bridge in New Rochelle Enters Phase 2

Written By: Robert Cox

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (January 13, 2025) — The next phase of the North Avenue Bridge replacement project begins Tuesday, January 7, with the following traffic changes:

  • Southbound North Avenue will be closed at Lockwood Avenue, with a detour directing traffic to Memorial Highway.
  • Northbound North Avenue will be reduced to one lane.
  • Vehicles with more than three axles are prohibited in the construction zone; a truck detour is available.
  • Pedestrian access will continue via the existing walkway over I-95, connecting at Burling Lane and the train station.

Construction will primarily occur during the day, but overhead tasks like bridge deck and steel removal, which require highway lane closures, will happen at night to ensure safety and minimize traffic disruption.

This phase involves demolishing and replacing the remaining bridge section as part of the $31.8 million project, with extended closures planned for demolition and steel installation.
