Bronx Man Arrested in Rye for Attempted Car Theft

RYE, NY (February 2, 2025) — On February 1, 2025, Carlos Varela-Pichardo, a 33-year-old from the Bronx, was taken into custody by Rye Police for:

  • Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree – Class E Felony
  • Obstruction of Governmental Administration
  • Resisting Arrest

Details:

  • Varela-Pichardo allegedly followed a local resident to their home, demanding their car keys. When refused, he fled but was soon captured nearby.
  • During the arrest, he resisted orders, leading to additional charges.

Legal Proceedings:

  • He was released on an appearance ticket with a court date set for February 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM in Rye City Court.
