NEW ROCHELLE, NY (February 13, 2025) — The City School District of New Rochelle Board of Education has extended Superintendent Dr. Corey W. Reynolds’ contract through 2029, a unanimous decision hailed as a win for stability and student success, according to a press release from the school district. The board sealed the deal at its Feb. 4 meeting, with the new agreement retroactively effective from July 1, 2024, and running until June 30, 2029.

Board President William Iannuzzi praised Reynolds’ leadership, crediting him with steering the district through the rocky post-pandemic years. “We’re deeply grateful for Dr. Reynolds’ unwavering commitment,” Iannuzzi said. “He took the helm at a critical moment and has set us on a path toward growth and excellence. His experience as a teacher, principal, and administrator is unmatched—we need him here.”

The extension comes as the district faces calls for continuity and better student outcomes. Co-Vice President Adina Berrios Brooks highlighted Reynolds’ knack for tackling tough challenges, including last year’s budget crunch. “He’s proven he can handle the fiscal storms ahead,” she said. Co-Vice President Makeda Lewis added that Reynolds’ innovative approach has already made waves in just 18 months, calling his impact “remarkable” and his style “collaborative yet accountable.”

Reynolds, who stepped into the superintendent role in July 2023 after serving as the district’s Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, didn’t hold back his excitement. “I’m honored and humbled to keep serving New Rochelle’s students, families, and educators,” he said. “The last two years have shown me the power of public education. I’m all in for helping our kids reach their full potential.”

A veteran educator, Reynolds started as an elementary teacher in Mount Vernon and Greenburgh before climbing the ranks. His resume boasts stints as Assistant Superintendent in Greenburgh and White Plains, plus leadership roles in Yonkers and a decade as a principal in Ossining. Armed with degrees from Seton Hall (bachelor’s and doctorate), Fordham (master’s in education), and the College of New Rochelle (master’s in administration), Reynolds brings a deep well of expertise to the job.

The extension signals the district’s bet on Reynolds to deliver progress and fiscal responsibility while keeping students first. With the community’s eyes on the future, New Rochelle’s education leaders are banking on this partnership to push the district’s mission forward.
