NEW ROCHELLE, NY (February 17, 2025) — The New Rochelle Public Library will host “Breaking Barriers in Baseball,” featuring Yankees radio broadcaster Suzyn Waldman and author Melissa Ludtke, on March 6, 2025, at 7 p.m. The event, held at 1 Library Plaza, celebrates Women’s History Month with a discussion on women’s progress and challenges in sports media.

Ludtke, author of Locker Room Talk: A Woman’s Struggle to Get Inside will recount her landmark federal court case against Major League Baseball in the 1970s. Her victory in Ludtke v. Kuhn granted female reporters equal access to locker rooms, reshaping opportunities for women in sports journalism.

Waldman, with 39 seasons covering the Yankees, including 21 on radio, will share her experiences as a trailblazing broadcaster. Together, they will explore the evolving role of women in baseball.

“Breaking Barriers in Baseball celebrates courage and progress in sports journalism,” said Eugenia Schatoff, library director. “We’re honored to host this conversation about past struggles and a more inclusive future.”
