NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (March 20, 2025) — A scammer posing as a fire inspector approached a business in New Rochelle, demanding money for fake equipment inspections, authorities reported Thursday.

The New Rochelle Fire Department stated that legitimate fire inspectors will never request immediate payment. Real NRFD personnel will always be in uniform during inspections and will arrive in an official vehicle displaying NRFD logos.

Officials advised that if someone approaches claiming to be an inspector, individuals should ask for identification, look for official logos, and verify with the local fire department before making any payment.

Anyone who encounters this scam is asked to call the non-emergency number at 914-654-2300 to report the incident.
