WHITE PLAINS, NY (April 9, 2025) — Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has secured a public hearing in Westchester to address Con Edison’s proposed rate hikes, following his formal request to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC), officials announced.
Jenkins requested the local hearing in a letter to the Administrative Law Judges overseeing the rate case, offering the Westchester County Center as a venue. The PSC agreed to hold the hearing in the county, giving residents and business owners a chance to voice their concerns directly.
“If Con Edison truly believes this rate hike is justified, they should look the people of Westchester in the eye and explain why,” Jenkins said. “Residents and business owners deserve the opportunity to ask questions, get answers, and be heard—not just on paper, not just online, but face to face.”
During a virtual PSC hearing, Jenkins testified on behalf of Westchester residents, highlighting the financial strain the proposed rate hike would impose. “I am here on behalf of all working-class families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small business owners who are already doing everything they can to make ends meet,” he said. “Forcing people to choose between heating their homes and buying groceries is not just bad policy—it’s unacceptable.”
Jenkins acknowledged the need for long-term investments in energy infrastructure and clean technology but urged the PSC to reject the rate increase. He also recently signed legislation solidifying Westchester County’s opposition to the proposed hikes, following a unanimous, bipartisan vote by the Westchester County Board of Legislators to intervene in the rate case. While supporting infrastructure upgrades, Jenkins criticized passing excessive costs onto consumers without transparency and accountability.
