NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 12, 2025) — NewRo Runners is calling on the running community to join the Cinco de Mile race on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., to raise funds for Lou Klein, a club member recently diagnosed with ALS, organizers announced.
The one-mile race, starting and ending on Hamilton Avenue, will feature a looped course with proceeds supporting Klein and his family for medical expenses, in-home care, and accessibility needs. The event includes wave starts, with awards for the top three overall male, female, and non-binary finishers, as well as age group awards from under 10 to over 70. Wave assignments will be posted by May 1, 2025.
“Lou has always been there for others, and now it’s our turn to be there for him,” said Dr. Andy Decker, NewRo Runners’ president. “The running community shows its true strength when we come together to support one of our own.”
Michael Conlon, founder of Giving You More Miles, added, “When I founded Giving You More Miles, our mission was to strengthen our community through running. Lou has always embodied that spirit, supporting fellow runners at events like our Turkey Trot. Now it’s our turn to support him while fostering community engagement through running.” Registration is open at givingyoumoremiles.org/cincodemile-raceinfo.
A GoFundMe campaign at gofundme.com/f/join-lou-als has already raised over $45,000 to support Klein. Those unable to attend can donate directly through the GoFundMe page. Volunteers or those wishing to visit Klein can contact Jenna Inzitari at jennainzitariprincipio@gmail.com.
