NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 12, 2025) — The City of New Rochelle will collect school and library taxes one month earlier starting in September 2025, following a request from the City School District of New Rochelle, city officials announced.
The collection months will shift from October and April to September and March, with the first installment due in September 2025 and the second in March 2026. The change, adopted by the City Council in January 2025, aims to improve cash flow to the school district, reducing its need to borrow funds at market interest rates and saving taxpayer money.
The city collects school and library tax payments in two installments and transfers the funds to the City School District as they become available. The district receives no funds until collection begins, and the city must cover any shortfall at the end of the collection period.
Taxpayers are advised to plan for the new schedule. The City’s Tax Office will notify all banks handling tax payments through escrow about the updated dates.
