RYE, NY (April 12, 2025) — Two sisters from New York City were arrested Friday afternoon following a physical altercation at a bus stop in Rye, police said.
Officers from the City of Rye Police Department responded to a 911 call at 3:15 p.m. reporting a fight between two females at the intersection of Purchase Street and Cedar Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who reported being attacked by Shavonne Tanner, 37, and Shaniqua Tanner, 36.
The victim, who was not named, told police she and Shaniqua Tanner are classmates in an internship program at a rehabilitation and nursing facility. She said the assault occurred while they were walking from the bus stop.
Police interviewed all parties involved and arrested Shavonne and Shaniqua Tanner on charges of third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor. The victim declined medical attention from EMS at the scene.
The sisters were processed and released with a desk appearance ticket, requiring them to appear in court on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
Rye police continue to investigate the incident.
