NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (April 22, 2025) — The City of New Rochelle is set to host a series of community-driven, eco-friendly events during Earth Week and into May, promoting sustainability and engaging residents in its 2025 GreeNR plan, city officials announced.
The lineup, designed to activate New Rochelle’s parks and public spaces, invites residents of all ages to participate in interactive, climate-focused activities. “We’re excited to celebrate Earth Week and Earth Month, and continue into May with events that highlight our commitment to sustainability,” City Manager Wilfredo Melendez said. “These diverse activities reflect our values in action and our push for a more resilient future. We invite the community to join in!”
On April 24, the New Rochelle Public Library will host “Why Trees Matter!” from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., a presentation on urban forestry, the city’s Street Tree Inventory, and the Community Forest Management Plan. Attendees will explore the ArborPro Community Viewer, which provides real-time data on city trees.
The New Rochelle Earth Day Festival follows on April 26 at Anderson Plaza from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., featuring a sustainable marketplace with green vendors, music, and art activities. That same weekend, on April 26 and 27, Volunteer New York! will coordinate park cleanups across 12 locations from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Residents can register online to participate.
In May, the Tag NR Community Wide Tag Sale on May 3 at Hamilton Avenue City Hall from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. will allow registered vendors to sell items like clothing and furniture. Concurrently, the 12th Annual Kite Day at Davenport Park from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. invites residents to fly or decorate kites, with music and refreshments provided. Registration is required.
