WHITE PLAINS, NY (December 24, 2025) — Westchester County’s Bee-Line bus system will officially launch the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s OMNY contactless fare payment system on January 4, 2026, allowing riders to pay with credit cards, smartphones, smartwatches or OMNY cards.

County Executive Ken Jenkins announced the transition, which follows a public hearing on December 18 where riders provided comments on fare adjustments related to the change.

“Westchester deserves a transportation system that reflects how people live and travel today,” Jenkins said. “The launch of OMNY gives Bee-Line riders a faster, more reliable way to board and pay, while ensuring no one is left behind during the transition. I’m proud of this important step forward as we continue to invest in modern and accessible transportation for all residents of Westchester County.”

Deputy County Executive Richard Wishnie highlighted the benefits of the new system.

“The launch of OMNY brings real-time benefits to riders like quicker boarding, contactless transactions and simpler transfers,” Wishnie said. “Just as important, we are providing options for those who still pay with coins, so the system works for everyone.”

Riders may continue using MetroCards on Bee-Line buses as long as the cards are not expired. MetroCard sales will end on December 31, 2025, and cards can no longer be reloaded after that date.

Weekly or monthly MetroCards must be activated by January 31, 2026, to remain valid.

To assist with the transition, passengers can transfer any remaining MetroCard balances to OMNY cards at the OMNY Mobile Sales Van, which will continue visiting locations throughout Westchester County. The mobile service, previously known as the MetroCard Van, offers in-person assistance for riders switching to the new system.

OMNY cards are available for purchase at select retail locations. Riders can find the nearest store at https://omny.info/retail-locations.

Cash payment with coins will remain an option on Bee-Line buses.
