NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 11, 2026) — New Rochelle police took a burglary suspect into custody Tuesday after officers conducted a tactical entry at a residence on Stephenson Boulevard.

Police said officers responded at approximately 4:50 p.m. on March 10, 2026, to a report of a burglary in progress. A 911 caller reported hearing the sound of glass breaking and then observed “an unknown Black male entering the residence through a side window.”

The caller provided a description of the suspect and remained on the line with dispatch, giving real-time updates as officers were en route, police said.

When officers arrived, they established a perimeter around the property “to contain the scene and prevent escape,” according to a press release from the New Rochelle Police Department. A tactical entry team then entered the home to search for the suspect and ensure the safety of any potential occupants.

Police said the suspect was found hiding in a second-floor bedroom closet and was taken into custody without incident or injury to officers or the suspect.

Authorities said no residents were home at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

Police identified the suspect as Leonard Wisher, 65, of Yonkers.

Wisher was charged under New York State Penal Law with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony, and third-degree criminal mischief, a Class E felony.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the New Rochelle Police Department at (914) 654-2300 or anonymously at (914) 632-COPS.
