WHITE PLAINS, NY (March 30, 2026) — Westchester County has reached a new population milestone, with the highest number of residents ever recorded, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates. The county experienced the largest numeric population increase in New York State between 2024 and 2025, adding 6,578 people for a total population of 1,015,743.
County Executive Ken Jenkins emphasized the county’s appeal as a place to live and work. “People are choosing Westchester – not just to visit, but to live, build families and invest in their future,” Jenkins said. “This jump underscores the County’s continued growth and strength as a place to live, work and raise a family.”
The county’s population is now approximately 1.1% higher than its 2020 Census count, signaling sustained growth over the past five years.
While 24 counties in New York State gained population, 38 saw declines, making Westchester a leader in regional growth according to the Census Bureau’s annual Population and Housing Unit Estimates program.
