NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (Aug. 18, 2026) — The Village of Mamaroneck, Westchester County and the City of New Rochelle are among 23 municipalities statewide receiving grants from the state Department of Environmental Conservation to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure, according to a DEC announcement.

The grants are part of the 2025 round of DEC’s Municipal ZEV Infrastructure Grant Program, which is providing 36 grants totaling more than $3.6 million for 74 level 2 electric vehicle charging ports and 24 fast chargers to municipalities across the state, the DEC said.

The Village of Mamaroneck received $65,242 for four level 2 charging ports, according to the DEC. Westchester County received $500,000 for 20 level 2 charging ports, the largest infrastructure award among municipalities listed. The City of New Rochelle received $84,000 for four level 2 charging ports.

Separately, under the DEC’s Municipal ZEV Rebate Program, Westchester County received $7,500 to support the purchase or lease of one battery electric vehicle, according to the DEC. That rebate program is providing awards to 14 municipalities statewide in 2025 to support 55 battery electric vehicles, totaling more than $400,000.

“New York State is committed to reducing pollution by supporting the transition to electrify the state’s transportation sector and improve the health and quality of life for residents,” DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton said in a statement.

Since the infrastructure program began in 2016, the DEC has awarded more than $23 million for 1,296 level 2 charging ports, 99 fast chargers and three hydrogen fuel filling nozzles statewide, according to the agency. Since the rebate program began that same year, it has awarded more than $2.25 million to municipalities for 286 electric vehicles and 115 plug-in hybrids, the DEC said.

The grants were awarded through the state’s Consolidated Funding Application, a single-entry system the state says is designed to streamline access to multiple funding sources through one application, according to the DEC.

More information on both programs is available on DEC’s website, the agency said.
