WHITE PLAINS, NY (September 4, 2026) — A Mount Vernon man was sentenced to six years in state prison on firearms and burglary charges stemming from the theft of guns from storage units in New Rochelle and their subsequent sale, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office said.

Zaid Lewis, 33, was sentenced Thursday before Westchester County Court Judge George Fufidio to six years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Lewis pleaded guilty July 23 to first-degree criminal sale of a firearm, a Class B violent felony; third-degree criminal sale of a firearm, a Class D violent felony; and two counts of third-degree burglary, Class D felonies.

Between September and November 2025, Lewis broke into multiple units at a New Rochelle storage facility and stole property that included three firearms, several boxes of ammunition, pistol holders, clothing, shoes and jewelry, according to prosecutors.

Lewis subsequently sold a total of four firearms in Mount Vernon, including the three guns stolen from the New Rochelle storage units: a .38-caliber Ruger revolver, a 9mm Glock 19 handgun and a 9mm SIG Sauer handgun.

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace said the investigation demonstrated the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies to recover stolen firearms and hold accountable those involved in illegal gun sales.

“Every illegal firearm that remains on our streets poses a serious threat to public safety,” Cacace said.

Lewis was arrested Sept. 26, 2025, following a multi-agency investigation involving the New Rochelle Police Department, New York State Police, New York City Police Department, Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office High Technology Crime Squad.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Mathieu Reno and Leigh Wellington of the Trials Division.
