New Rochelle is a richly diverse city. Its diversity mirrors the diversity of the United States but exists within the confines of a small city. Most of the residents find this situation appealing, particularly as it enables their children to learn how to interact in the kind of world they will likely be living in when they are adults. Youth athletic programs are an important part of the learning process in this regard. Thus, NRYH is committed to encouraging children from all over New Rochelle to participate in our program. Since hockey is a relatively expensive sport and requires a significant up front investment in equipment, we have determined that we have to provide our program cost free to children whose parents need to be encouraged to let their kids give the sport a try.
FULL SCHOLARSHIP OUTREACH PROGRAM
Thus we have partnered with Nike Bauer and received generous grants from many donors (who are acknowledge on the “donors” page of this website), to provide ten full scholarships (25% of the total) for our program. The ten scholarship recipients will receive:
- free tuition to our 2006-07 Winter Program
- full equipment provided by Nike Bauer (equipment is property of NRYH and will be required to be returned)
- jersey and other apparel provided as part of the program to all participants
- depending on availability of funds and other donations, we are going to attempt to provide one week of hockey camp at a local rink to each participant during the summer of 2007.
If you have a kindergartner or first grader who attends a New Rochelle public school and would like to be considered for one of the ten scholarships we are offering, please contact us at (914) 738-5992 or by email at info@nryh.org. We encourage the parents of the applicants to apply as a group with their kids friends because we want the scholarship kids to be able to be together with friends so that they will enjoy participating and stick with the program.
EQUIPMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Nike Bauer’s generosity will enable us to provide full equipment to ten additional participants. These participants will be responsible for the program fee and will be required to return the equipment at the end of the season. SPONSOR A SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
In addition to the general donations we are soliciting on the donor page of this website, we are also offering a program under which a donor can sponsor one (or more) of the 10 scholarship recipients. The required donation is $300 and you will be acknowledged on our website.
