Banning of Anonymous (notice capital letter) would just be another form of internet cesorship, the very thing we work to avoid. You know who censors the internet? Chinese, Iranians and Scientologists, which one are you?

    We are Anonyomous
    We are Legion
    We do not forgive
    We do not forget

    Expect us…

Mr Cox my comments about anonymous post we not directed at your rules or any attempt to change your rules. My comment we directed at the individuals who would take shots on or make comments, then hide behind anonymous.
Thank you for your correction on the current President.

I have attempted to join the site as a registered member MULTIPLE times and never received a reply from the administration. I know multiple people who said the same thing, so I think those ‘quirks’ should be fixed ensuring that everyone has equal and fair BEFORE even thinking about raising issues over the value of anonymous users and their edits

    1. The registration process is
      The registration process is automated.

You are being sent an email. So either you are not entering the email correctly, your are not checking the correct account or — most likely — you have a junk mail filter that is trapping the email. Check your junk mail folder first. If you do not see the confirm email then delete all the junk mail, register again and then check it.

Everyone has an equal opportunity to register but you need to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS for registering a bit more closely. If you this still does not work then send an email directly to the site at newrochelletalk AT me DOT com and I will work with you to solve the problem.

      1. I heard that you heard about
I heard that you heard about Albert leonards drug problems and said nothing. You are a selective journalist with a vindictive agenda. The truth is not your mantra, selfishness and hatred is.

      2. First, if you know something
First, if you know something about “Albert leonards drug problems” there is nothing that is preventing you from registering and posting about it or simply adding a comment explaining what you mean as you did here.

SOMEONE sent me an email on Sunday explaining what you are talking about — maybe you — but to whoever it was who sent me some of the details…thanks!

I will have a post about this shortly.

I’ve recommended about 6 people to the site and nobody had any oroblems. You do have to check your e-mail for the initial access code, after that use whatever works best for you. It’s pretty much the same for signing up with anything these days. good luck

  4. This comment is not directed
This comment is not directed at Clive but I am using his blog post as a jumping off point.

The argument over anonymous comments online is a very old one going back to the earliest days of the Internet and I have heard all sides of this argument for a long-time. I have a very definite opinion on this and am not going to be swayed in it based on complaints like the one above. However, as I indicated, it is a useful departure point to air this issue.

We have a policy which says that if you register then your comments are published immediately. You can register under your real name or an assumed name. If you do not register you can still comment but we are only going to publish comments that we find useful by our own definition.

Let’s get this “censorship” issue out of the way. It is common for trolls to scream about censorship when they are not permitted unfettered access to readers of someone else’s web site. Censorship is an act of a government. By blocking, deleting or editing anonymous comments we are not, by definition, engaged in censorship. Anyone is free to start up their own blog and screech about this site until the cows come home but “free speech” does not mean you have the right to come to someone else’s web site and screech.

I believe that readers can judge credibility on their own. I also believe that people should own their words. So, generally speaking, I believe that people should register under their own name and be accountable for what they write on a web site. I believe most readers understand that someone who self-identifies and then speaks or writes is more credible than someone who does not. But not always. There is a time and place for anonymous speech. On this site contributors can be anonymous or pseudonymous. I always tell people if you are not willing to use your own name then at least use a pseudonym so readers can associate a particular voice with a set of blog posts and comments. It has the advantage of shielding identity with the advantage of allowing readers to get to “know” a particular contributor.

The lowest form of participation is anonymous commenting. Anonymous commenters are permitted here but I tend to take what they write with a grain of salt. They are certainly not owed anything here so I feel free to block, delete or edit their comments as I see fit. Basically, if I decide an anonymous comment is “useful” in some way then I approve it otherwise not. f they do not like that they have the option to go away or to register.

All that said, we have articulated a vague set of standards for this site mostly having to do with attempts to “hijack” the site. People who have invested nothing in this site — time, effort, thought, money — have no “right” to seek to dominate the discussion, bait readers, annoy or harass readers. People who do that whether registered or not will be be blocked, deleted, banned, etc. This includes attempts to create undo attention which means no posts or headlines with ALL CAPS, no foul language, etc.

I am the Managing Editor of the site so what I decide in a particular case IS the rule and I do not consider myself bound by anyone else’s view or desire for consistency. There is no rule book here. I have been running blogs for 7 years now. I’ve heard all the arguments many times on these issues and I have not the slightest interest in what other people think about them. If someone does not like the rules here or finds them arbitrary or capricious they are welcome to bugger off or start their own blog.

if one becomes a member – will comments continue to get reviewed before posting?

    1. If you click the “Register”
If you click the “Register” link at the top of each page you will see this…

      Why Register?
      http://www.newrochelletalk.com/node/335

      ▪ Commenting: While you can comment on the site without registering, your comments will not appear immediately, they will be generically listed as “anonymous” and may be edited or not published at all. By registering, your comments appear immediately, your account name appears besides each comment and you get your own blog.

      ▪ Blogging: Any articles or “posts” you submit to your blog will appear immediately on the home page in the upper right corner under “Most Recent Posts” where it will remain until pushed down the list by more recent posts. Blogs will be promoted in several ways: in the left rail as “featured posts”, in the list of RSS Feeds, in category-based aggregators in the Table of Contents in the right rail, sorted by subjects like Sports, Politics, and Education. Some will be promoted as “featured blogs” in the right rail on the home page.
