Saturday at Bethesda Baptist, NewRo Housing Authority Presents Author of New Book: “Post Traumatic Slave

7C1033E8-A5A6-47E6-A150-1616FF95DFAB.jpgThe New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority will present Dr. Joy DeGruy (formerly Leary), internationally renounded author and speaker, on Saturday, August 22, 2009, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Bethesda Baptist Church, Dr. C.M. Long Sr. Family Life Center, 71 Lincoln Ave.

Dr. Joy DeGruy has over twenty years of experience in the field of social work and is a renowned speaker on issues of race relations, contemporary social issues and culture.

She is the author of the book entitled Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing. Through this work, Dr. DeGruy examines the adaptive behaviors slaves developed, both positive and negative, that allowed them to survive. In her analysis, Dr. DeGruy concludes that these behaviors must be better understood to ensure and sustain the health and advancement of African American Culture.
