Death Takes A Holiday on Councilman Stowe’s “Boulevard of Carnage”

DSC01839In keeping with a tradition that has become more reliable than the Thanksgiving Day Parade, there was yet another car crash on the corner of Pratt and Adams Streets today. Coming home from work, I had the chance to watch the last car being loaded onto the back of a tow truck. Two cars were involved and one person was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

As I’ve said in previous posts this is a recurring incident that you would be hard pressed to see occurring elsewhere in this city. The East End neighborhood association has spoken to just about anyone who would listen about the speeding and frequency of accidents without any results. Yet, somehow the city council found the time and consulted with the police commissioner in multiple sessions about a resident who apparently doesn’t move his car enough times in a 24 hour period.

So, today, death took a holiday, but you have to wonder when the odds will catch up with some driver or pedestrian. The neighborhood stands ready to work side by side with anyone willing to help, but it’s a city street and we’re not traffic engineers. We do understand there’s a budget crunch, however, it’s not like we’re asking to repave a parking lot. This is a public safety and quality of life issue, just ask the kids that play in the neighborhood as they dodge the speeders on the Stephenson Boulevard.

What do you say Jim Stowe? You’ve had stop signs put up in your neighborhood, so we know you have the ability to help, the question is do you have the interest to help.

Contact the East End Civic Assoc, and we’ll be more than willing to do our part, will you do yours?
