OK. The only thing this video has to do with New Rochelle is that I was in New Rochelle when I got the mailer about the Grand Opening but a lot of folks seem to have heard about this and I wanted to share the full nature of the zoo that was the grand opening. If you were there, you know what I mean. If you weren’t, consider yourself lucky.

Pelham Does it Again…
Pelham deals yet another blow to the New Rochelle economy by making Pelham Manor the new home to Fairway Market.
How did Pelham officials pull this off? Simple, they had the right space, they have the right location and most importantly, they have the right people running their government and schools.
Pelham and New Rochelle border each other but are worlds apart. Pelham Manor pays high property and school taxes, but so do New Rochelle residents. Pelham residences are very loyal to their community, while New Rochelle residences are not. New Rochelle politicians are criminals, Pelham’s politicians are not. The property and school tax money that are collected in Pelham are actually used to better the community and the schools. New Rochelle property and school tax money are distributed much differently. First they pull their share or money for their salaries, then they pull their share of the money for their expenses and then what ever is left over may go into the city services and the schools.
The big difference is that Pelham politicians actually care about there town while New Rochelle politicians care only for themselves.
There’s a rumor that home owners of the Sycamore Park section of New Rochelle are looking to secede from The City of New Rochelle and become part of Pelham. If that should happen, that would be a win-win for Pelham and the Sycamore Park residences.
Sycamore Park Seceding?
This sounds like a bit of news worthy of its own post.
Can you expand on this with an article entitled: Should Sycamore Park Secede from New Rochelle? Should New Rochelle allow it?
Perhaps you can explain whether this is legally permissible and whether the neighborhood association is openly considering such an attempt.
Does Pelham require annual home interior inspections?
Q: I do not know if this is true, but I heard that Pelham inspects the interiors and exteriors of privately owned homes every year.
If true, this seems like a gross invasion of privacy.
Is the option open for New Rochelle homeowners to apply to be annexed to Larchmont?
Pelham Fairway’s a Winner! No parking meters or ticket agents.
Visited Fairway in Pelham Manor today. No Parking meters to drive away shoppers. The parking lot and store were packed. Lots of tax dollars in Pelham coffers.
Maybe being nice to consumers is the way to go.
What ever happened to the big box New Roc department stores???
Maybe we should all apply to be annexed to Pelham.
They seem to be getting it right.
Fairway
According to the Westchester Business Journal —
http://www.westfaironline.com/westchester-county-business-journal/article/7415-fairway-comes-to-westchester.html
“The 75,000-foot-store in Pelham Manor, the largest in the company’s growing metropolitan chain… It includes a 60-seat café; 20,000 square feet of backroom storage; a design-your-own burrito deli section and a hot bar; more than 600 varieties of cheese, including hand-pulled mozzarella made at the counter; a roaster on the premises that will process 2,000 pounds of coffee daily; more than 90 varieties of imported and domestic olive oil, bottled and store-labeled at Fairway’s central facility in Harlem, and an anticipated monthly electric bill of $100,000.”
and
“With the Westchester opening, Fairway has nearly 3,000 employees at its six stores and approximately $500 million in annual revenues, according to the Glickbergs’ business partner, Sterling Investment Partners of Westport, Conn. Fairway has more than 10 million customers annually and the highest sales volume per square foot of any grocery store in the country.”
“The company, Fairway Group Holdings Corp., has spent about $10 million for its first venture in Westchester, Glickberg said. Connecticut’s Fairfield County will see its first Fairway Market with the expected October opening of a 70,000-square-foot store at Harbor Point in Stamford. Fairway will start its build-out there the day after its April 14 grand opening in Pelham Manor, Glickberg said.”
It sounds nice — good parking, too.
great deals for the opening
I picked up filet mignon for $4.99 a pound.
You can see everyone seems to have the Bounty Paper Towels in their carts – they had great deals on paper towels, Tide, Charmin, coffee for $4.99 a pound, strawberries 4 cartons for $5 and more.
You know that Ikea commercial?
“start the car !!! ,start the car !!!”?
It was like that.
Was there any IDA giveaway
Was there any IDA giveaway becauase I thought I read no tax abatements were tendered.
The area was a complete dump and they somehow built this area up without coming to the local IDA for welfare.
Geez do you think New Rochelle can follow along here?
