New Rochelle City Council Votes Unanimously to Approve Proposed Changes to Downtown Parking

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

parking-ticket.jpgThe New Rochelle City Council approved last night a plan proposed by the BID to extend metered parking in municipal lots to 24 hours a day (except Sundays and Holidays). Councilman St. Paul who has organized community opposition to the original plan which included extended metered parking on the street from the current 6 PM to 11 PM, was absent as the City Council voted 6-0 vote to approve the BID recommendation.

There is no time line set for implementation. City Manager Chuck Strome stated at the BID Board meeting last week that there would be a roll-out phase during which signs would be posted and warnings issued to give parkers time to acclimate themselves to the new policy. At the same meeting, BID Chairman Marc Jerome pledged to review how things are going and make changes as needed. The second part of the original BID proposal — to extend metered parking on the street from 6 PM to 11 PM will be considered in the future after the impact of changes to parking in the municipal lots has become clear.

  1. Now park where?
This is ridiculous. Where exactly are merchants, their patrons, and more importantly, downtown residents supposed to park now? If the city is so strapped for money, why not do what someone suggested here last month–lower the salaries of new rochelle leadership across the board instead!

    1. Your better off going to Larchmont!
The parking’s FREE and the stores are better.
