Westchester County Police arrested two persons Thursday afternoon and seized 1,000 small bags of heroin and more than $9,000 in cash following a traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway in New Rochelle.
According to WCPD, Police Officer Steven Stromberg was patrolling the northbound Hutch near Weaver Street about 12:07 p.m. when he stopped a 2008 Dodge Avenger after observing a traffic violation. Stromberg determined that the car was a rental that was supposed to have been returned to the rental company on April 14. In addition, the driver had a suspended license.
Stromberg took the driver, Donnell Allick, 30, of New Haven, Conn., into custody and impounded the car. During an inventory search of the vehicle, the drugs and cash were found in a brown leather bag stored between the two front seats. A passenger in the vehicle, Sybil Gibbs, 30, of Bridgeport, Conn., was then placed under arrest as well.
The heroin was packaged in individual glassine envelopes stamped “Hitman.” Similar small bags of heroin sell on the street for $10 to $20 per bag.
The cash — $9,494 – was found in a brown paper bag inside the leather bag.
Allick and Hopkins were each charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, felonies. Allick was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor.
Allick and Hopkins were held overnight pending arraignment today in New Rochelle City Court.
