The College of New Rochelle’s 38th annual Strawberry Festival offered something special for family members of all ages — a a fun-filled day of outdoor activities, music, entertainment, and strawberry treats. The Strawberry Festival, introduced in 1972, is the single largest event organized entirely by the college’s undergraduates. The concept of the Strawberry Festival originated in the mid-west during the 1890’s as an American festival celebrating the ripening of strawberries, the blooming of lilacs, and the coming of summer.

THere were rock bands, Big Band and pop to salsa and R&B. The giant slide was a little scary for some of the smaller kids, a few of whom turned around halfway up the stairs alongside the slide. There was face painting, a carousel, gladiator joust, Dalmatian Funhouse, spin art, and much more. The highlight of course, was strawberries — chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry smoothies, and strawberry shortcake, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones.
