New Rochelle Schools Name New Principals for Ward and Jefferson

The City School District of New Rochelle has recommended the following appointments to fill administrative positions in the School District for the 2010-11 school year:

Franco J. Miele will assume the position of Principal of William B. Ward Elementary School. The Board of Education is expected to ratify a resolution appointing Mr. Miele during their next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 31 at 8 PM. Most recently, Mr. Miele has been principal of the Sheafe Road Elementary School in Wappingers Falls, NY. Previously, Mr. Miele had served as Assistant Principal of the Roy C. Ketcham Senior High School. Before working in Wappingers Falls, Mr. Miele taught sixth grade at the Lincoln Elementary School in Mount Vernon. Mr. Miele succeeds Kenneth Regan, who is retiring from the Principal position he has held at William B. Ward Elementary School since 1988.

Kimberly Nieves, formerly an Assistant Principal, was appointed by the Board of Education on June 29 to become the Principal of Jefferson Elementary School replacing Cynthia Slotkin, who retired after eight years of serving in the Principal position. After working five years as a Guidance Counselor at the Albert Leonard Middle School in New Rochelle, Ms. Nieves was Assistant Principal at the Ridge Street School in Rye Brook for a year, before she came to Jefferson Elementary School as Assistant Principal.

Jose Martinez, who has been Administrative Dean at the Isaac Young Middle School for three years, will be re-appointed to fill the post of Assistant Principal at the Jefferson Elementary School, stepping into the position vacated by Ms. Nieves.

Rodney Arthur, Assistant Director of Middle School Special Education, is transferring into the position of Assistant Director of Special Education assigned to New Rochelle High School, to fill the position formerly held by Linda Ranieri who retired in June.

Linda Generoso, a teacher of Special Education in New Rochelle for 34 years, has been selected to be appointed to the post of Assistant Director of Middle School Special Education, vacated by Rodney Arthur.
