Iona College Remembers Gatetano “Tony” Cannone

Iona College held a memorial service at Iona College Friday, October 1, Iona College to remember Gaetano “Tony” Cannone, of New Rochelle. Cannone passed away on August 1, 2010.

Tony was born in Vallata, Italy on April 7, 1933 to Nicola and Assunta Cannone. He lived in Italy until 1973 at which time he, his wife and small children immigrated to the United States. In 1977 he first opened the doors to Cannone’s Pizza, which he owned and operated, on North Avenue in New Rochelle. Affectionately known to all as Mr. Cannone, it was his generosity, love for life and constant smile that made everyone want to be near him. His establishment became both a part of the Iona College experience as well as a mainstay in the New Rochelle community.
