Last Month, Iona Prep alumnus Brian Moran ’06 was promoted to Double-A in the Seattle Mariners’ minor league system. Brian, a Rye native, attended the University of North Carolina for three years before getting drafted in the seventh round (203 overall) in 2009 by the Mariners. He finished the 2010 season pitching for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx changed their name to the Jackson Generals after the 2010 season. Brian spent most of the 2010 season in Single-A where he posted impressive statistics as a relief pitcher for both the Clinton LumberKings (A) and the High Desert Mavericks (A+). In 22 games with the LumberKings, Brian pitched 40.1 innings and posted a 4-1 record with an ERA of 1.34, 48 strikeouts and only six walks. In 17 games with the Mavericks, he pitched 25.1 innings and posted a 2-0 record with an ERA of 1.42, 48 strikeouts and only two walks. Brian is expected to begin the 2011 season in Double-A playing for the Jackson Generals.
During his collegiate career, Brian was considered one of the top relief pitchers in the country. Brian was named Westchester County Player of the Year as a senior at Iona Prep. His bother Colin ’10 is a freshman at UNC where he plays third-base.
