Veterans Day Observence in New Rochelle- Stand and Show Your Support

The United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association of the City of New Rochelle will observe Veterans Day with a ceremony to be held on Thursday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Monument, Memorial Plaza, corner of Memorial Highway and Main Street.

Participants include Veterans, City Officials, Elected Officials and the New Rochelle High School Marching Band. All are welcomed to join in this tribute to the men and women who have served this nation.

Following the ceremony all are invited to attend a public reception for a new exhibit at the New Rochelle Public Library “Poignant Portraits: Honoring New Rochelle Veterans and Fallen Soldiers”, on exhibit November 6- 30 at the Lumen Winter Gallery, New Rochelle Public Library.

The centerpiece of the exhibit will be recently conserved photographs of New Rochelle boys killed in World War I, from the library’s stellar local history collection. Other treasures on display include:

scrapbooks from World War II which contain thousands of thumbnail sketches of service personnel drawn by some of the nation’s top illustrators and artists living in New Rochelle;

The Book of Honor from World War II.

  • ·

A newly-created database of over 1,000 newspaper clippings about New Rochelle men who fought in World War II.

  • ·

The Grand Army Republic Book of Honor from the Civil War, with reminiscences of those who fought in battles.

  • ·

The Fort Slocum-David’s Island website, which recently won an award from Greater Hudson Heritage.
