Upcoming Holidays Mean “Drunk Driving Over the Limit Under Arrest”
Poughkeepsie, NY, (December 15, 2010) – Major Michael A. Kopy, Troop K Commander, today announced that the New York State Police will be out in full force cracking down on anyone caught drunk behind the wheel. Beginning Thursday, December 16th and continuing through New Years Day, police agencies in the Troop K region and police departments across the country will join forces in the effort, which is part of the “Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest” National Crackdown.
“Since the holiday season is traditionally marked by increased travel and alcohol consumption, troopers will be participating in this national crackdown,” said Major Kopy. “Our goal is to ensure motorists are not needlessly injured or killed by an intoxicated or drug impaired driver.”
Major Kopy recommends the following tips for a safe holiday season:
· Designate a driver before the celebrations begin
· Take public transportation
· Utilize the Safe Ride Program in your community
· And remember, Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk
“Any serious injury or death is too many especially during the holidays,” said Major Kopy. “There is no excuse for drinking and driving.” According to Major Kopy, local troopers will conduct numerous sobriety checkpoints during the 17 day crackdown in Troop K.
