Back on December 12th, a woman named Andrea Hoffman tweeted about a planned appearance at Monroe College to promote her book Black is the New Green, Marketing to Affluent African Americans. Noticing the tweet, I contacted her offering to promote her event.
you tweeted that you were coming to speak in New Rochelle.
Please send details and we will promote it.

She replied.
Thanks for the note. Myself and my co-author will be speaking about our book. Here is the website.
There were no details about the event on the web site she sent. After poking around, I gave up and wrote her again.
Andrea,
I am aware that you will be speaking — I need date, time, loc, etc.

She replied again.
My apologies. Its January 25th. Waiting on further details which I will send you once I have them. Thank you. Andrea

I asked her to send the event information when it became available.
OK. 🙂
We have time. I will post details when you have them.

I never heard from her again but I did see a press release at AOL Patch over the weekend:
Monroe College to host “Marketing to Affluent African Americans” Presentation
Seeing this, I wrote her again today.
Andrea,
I am going to have seriously question your marketing saavy.
You sent a press release to the least read media outlet in the area and ignored the most read even after I found you on my own and then exchanged several emails expressing my interest.

Good luck with that.

So, if you want to get advice on marketing from someone who could not pass Marketing 101, be sure to stop by tomorrow.
Andrea needs a better media relations person!
Andrea needs a better media relations person. Maybe she hired a former Patch employee.
Andrea is certainly not ready for prime time.
I think I’ll pass on this one.
