Elbow Update from Westchester Medical Center

Written By: Robert Cox

CollinsRestingWMCHere’s the latest on the saga of my son’s serious skiing accident. Surgery scheduled for Monday afternoon was cancelled after the pediatric orthopedic specialist saw the CAT Scan he informed us that the injury was worse than what he saw on the X-Ray, there is a break in the humorous bone where it rests on the Ulna but in between there are numerous smaller breaks — the elbow is shattered in multiple places. The doctor referred us to another who handles major trauma cases like my son’s case where he has one part an adult break or series of breaks and another part a pediatric break. The picture is not pretty.

We were unable to scheduled surgery that late in the day with the other doctor out of Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. Instead we took our son home and brought him up to WMC this morning. We were here all day but they were unable to schedule him until Wednesday morning. So, my wife and I spent the day with him. She is going to spend the night and I am going to head back to New Rochelle.

A number of readers has sent their prayers and best wishes for Collins. We all want to thank you for your support. I have been showing Collins some of the emails which he enjoys. He is sort of doped up on Morphine but he does get to skip school, skip homework and watch TV from bed all day.

Tomorrow is the big day. The surgery is complex and will take several hours but hopefully by midday I can report the outcome.

Thanks again for your support.
