Written By: Robert Cox

There is a water main break on Webster Avenue. Traffic is being re-routed. Exit 16 on Hutch closed. Awaiting official word from United Water.

OFFICIAL FROM UNITED WATER: Two main breaks were reported at approximately 7 am this morning on Webster Avenue–24 inch and 12 inch. Emergency crews have been on the scene to make repairs. Customers in the area may have reduced pressures, as a result. At this time there are no reports of customers without water.

Alert from United Water of New Rochelle.

ADDITIONAL STATEMENT FROM UNITED WATER: United Water customers in the area of Webster Avenue in New Rochelle may be experiencing discolored water or low water pressure as the result of two main breaks this morning. The discoloration is caused by high levels of naturally occurring minerals in the water and a buildup of harmless sediment in the water mains.

Although the water is discolored, it poses no health risks and it meets safe drinking water standards. However, customers may prefer to wait until it runs clear before drinking or washing clothes or dishes.

Emergency crews are in the process of repairing the water mains. The company estimates that the break will be repaired sometime today.

“We understand that a main break can be an inconvenience to our customers,” said general manager and vice president of United Water New York, Michael Pointing. “Our emergency team is working as quickly as possible to restore proper service. We appreciate our customers’ patience during this time.”

2PM Update: Some customers in the area may be without water, have low pressure or discolored water, as the mains on Webster Avenue are isolated and shutdown to complete the repair. Repairs are still expected to be completed later today.
