SpotCrime Map Now Live on Talk of the Sound, Sign Up for Alerts, Get iPhone Map

SpotCrimeMap1Mayor Bramson, rejecting the advice of his own Police Commissioner, calls you knowing whether your neighborhood is safe an “anti-marketing campaign“. Bramson, Fertel and Sussman made their objections clear, that residents need “education” and “context” to understand a crime map of New Rochelle. Talk of the Sound believes you can figure out on your own what 12 burglaries in a month in your neighborhood means — lock your doors, be vigilant and report any suspicious person to the NRPD. We believe you have the right to know what is happening on your block.

With an assist from Colin Drane, the Founder and President of SpotCrime.com, Talk of the Sound is now offering a comprehensive graphical representation of crime data for New Rochelle. We have added data for the past week and will keep adding new data each week. To view the map just click the image in this article, a similar image will be permanently displayed in the right column of the home page. You can register for free to get email alerts of all police incidents within a mile of your house or place of business. There is even a free SpotCrime iPhone app. For 3 bucks you can have an ad-free version.

Sign Up! Get the App! And while you are at it, don’t forget about SeeClickFix. We are now getting reports on graffiti, broken traffic lights and, of course, potholes. With the SeeClickFix apps you can take a photo of the problem, the phone will tag the report with the GPS coordinates and the report will go straight to City Hall and the Talk of the Sound web site.

  1. I had to clear memory for the app to work
    Hi Kyle,

I had the same problem on my IPad. The problem was solved by clearing the cookies and memory. The App works fine now. The only problem is that I cannot see the street map because of all of the blue crime dots. So much for the illusion of a safe city.

    1. check and uncheck crime types
to make the map more readable make sure to select or deselect crime types, also you can change date range and you can zoom in and out.

  2. Crash
Would be nice if the iPhone app didn’t crash every 5 seconds. Unusable. In need of a working update before I even think about purchasing.

    1. will let developer know
they have been very helpful and am sure they will check that.

keep in mind with iphone apps you are supposed to reboot the phone when you install an app.
