Desde ahora y hasta noviembre de 2011, se le solicitará por muchas personas en New Rochelle a votar por ellos para el Concejo Municipal o para el Alcalde de New Rochelle. Por favor, pregúntese si cualquiera de estos funcionarios electos que presumiblemente le representó en los últimos cuatro años le ayudó de alguna manera?
¿Es cierto que cortejó agresivamente sólo en tiempos de elecciones y que ignora el resto del año? Hay muchos temas que son importantes para nosotros como por ejemplo empujar la legislación de inmigración, vivienda asequible, seguro de salud a bajo costo, los recursos equitativos para los niños en nuestras escuelas públicas, etc, pero todos sabemos que ninguno de nuestros funcionarios locales han hecho poco para comunicarse con los latinos. ¿Puede recordar la última vez que el alcalde Bramson visitó nuestro barrio? O más aún, ¿ha visitado alguna vez un restaurante de comida mexicana o hizo compras en Union Avenue?
Sería un error para los demócratas y republicanos para suponer que el voto latino necesariamente va a ser fuerte para ellos para el 2011. Si los demócratas y los republicanos esperan que los votantes latinos van a salir en grandes números en el año 2011, tienen que empezar a moverse en un montón de temas locales que les importa. O se lucha por los inmigrantes latinos o ambas partes seguirá perdiendo apoyo entre ellos.
Los demócratas nos han representado tristemente. Los Republicanos han sido igual de malo. Sus políticas han sido odiosos. Ellos dos no han podido siquiera intentar de parecer que estan tratando de cumplir con su promesa al nivel local, estatal o nacional – vea la desgracia de la reforma migratoria!
La lección que espero que los demócratas y los republicanos tienen que aprender de las pasadas elecciones es que el tono de los asuntos debate. Demócratas y republicanos no debe ni puede permitir que la retórica calentada a sonar enojado y anti-latinos. Es entonces cuando los latinos dejan de escuchar y dan la espalda .
Pero los latinos también deben asumir la responsabilidad de su éxito y la prosperidad política.
Si usted ya es un ciudadano de los EE.UU., registrase para votar. No importa qué partido que elija. Vota por la persona que mejor se adapte a sus opiniones, creencias y con quién puede contar para obtener el hecho de cosas que son importantes para usted y su familia.
Si usted es un residente legal por favor, ayude a difundir el mensaje de que convertirse en un ciudadano de los EE.UU. es importante. Es importante que nos convertimos en ciudadanos y como ciudadanos que ejercemos nuestro derecho al voto en la votación porque podemos mejorar nuestras comunidades. Cuando te conviertes en un ciudadano de los EE.UU., se obtiene una variedad de beneficios además de ser capaz de votar y que su voz sea escuchada. Usted puede hacer esto al convertirse en un ciudadano de los EE.UU. y el fomento de los que te rodean para que hagan lo mismo.
El voto es poder. El poder está en su voto.

Wake up the People!
All to often, the Hispanic communities in New York State have not used the power of their vote. Instead, they prefer to work, start businesses, and raise their children which is a great thing. But if they voted, Hispanics would benefit from more government services. And there would be opportunities for business too.
How do you motivate this community? Who can make them vote? The Churches?
It is time to wake up this sleeping giant.

En general, las comunidades hispanas en el estado de Nueva York no ha utilizado el poder de su voto. En su lugar, prefieren trabajar, hacer negocios, y criar a sus hijos. Si han votado, los hispanos se beneficiarían de los servicios públicos más. Y hay oportunidades para los negocios también.
¿Cómo motivar a esta comunidad? ¿Quién puede hacer que votar? Las Iglesias?
Es hora de despertar este gigante dormido.
Voting is power. Power is in your vote!
Between now and November 2011, you will be asked by many people in New Rochelle to vote for them for City Council and Mayor of New Rochelle. Please ask yourself if any of these elected officials who have presumably represented you in the last four years helped you in any way?
Is it the case that they aggressively courted you only in times of elections and ignored you the rest of the year? There are many issues that are important to us like pushing immigration legislation, affordable housing, low-cost health insurance, equitable resources for children in our public schools, etc. But we all know that none of our local officials have done little to communicate with Latinos. Can you remember the last time Mayor Bramson visited the West end? Or much yet, has he ever visited a Mexican restaurant or shopped on Union Avenue?
It would be a mistake for Democrats and Republican to assume that the Latino vote is necessarily going to be strong on them for 2011. If the Democrats and Republicans expect Latino voters to come out in big numbers in 2011, they need to start moving on a lot of local issues that matter to them. Either you fight for Latino immigrants or both parties will continue to lose support among them.
Democrats have been dismal. Republican have been equally bad. Their policies have been dismal. They have failed to even attempt to look like they’re trying to deliver on their promise at the local, state or national level – look at immigration reform!
The one lesson that I hope the Democrats and Republicans have to learn from the past election is that the tone of the debate matters. Democrats and Republicans should not and cannot allow heated rhetoric to sound angry and anti-Latino. That is when Latinos stop listening and turn their backs.”
But Latinos must also take responsibility for their success and political prosperity.
If you are already a US Citizen, register to vote. It doesn’t matter what party you choose. Vote for the person that best fits your views, beliefs and who you can count to get the things done that are important to you and your family.
If you are a legal resident please help spread the message that becoming a U.S. citizen is important. It’s important that we become citizens and as citizens that we exercise our right to vote because in voting we can better our communities. When you become a U.S. citizen, you gain a variety of benefits in addition to being able to vote and have your voice heard. You can do this by becoming a U.S. citizen and encouraging those around you to do so as well.
