New Rochelle Board of Education Reorganizes at Annual Meeting: Petrone President, Hastie Vice President

Written By: Robert Cox

The New Rochelle Board of Education has been reorganized.

At their annual reorganization meeting on Tuesday, Chrisanne Petrone was elected President and Jeffrey Hastie was elected Vice President.

New board members Naomi Brickel and Rachel Relkin were sworn in.

Former board members Sara Richmond and Quay Watkins attend their last meeting as board members on June 28th.

Richmond was the President of the Board for the last two years. During her time on the board, Richmond played a lead role in increasing transparency for Board of Education meetings — putting meetings on TV and the Internet, uploading Agenda documents to the web site, holding budget input sessions to invite the public to comment on draft budgets, recording all meetings using digital audio, and, this past year, offering live TV broadcasts of budget meetings.

Quay Watkins was previously Vice President of the Board.

[NOTE: I had intended to go and cover this meeting and speak as I normally do but dragged my feet and in the end decided to give the board a break and leave the evening to the new board officers and new board members. There will be plenty of time to address my concerns with the district and the board at future meetings.]
