when he was wending his magic in suffolk county he mismanaged a situation that while wrong, was little more than overzealous upper class athletes playing whack the bottom (or similar) with underclassmen. He capped that off by indicating it as a form of sexual harrassment and, in the bargain, fired the science or english (don’t remember) faculty member who had little to do with it but head up a group of boisterous boys.
Ok, it was controversial and divided the community. But Richie, became somewhat of an Internet legend by coming out with the following quote. (if anything, only slightly paraphrased).
Funtime — he is alleged to have said. “we will stand for no harassment real or imagined.”
Yes, he said, “imagined” and somewhere it likely lingers like a methane explosion on the internet which never forgives or forgets.
I think this genius continues to reside in Suffolk County and phones in his scary knowledge and probably fills out voluminous expense accounts.
Bob Cox has a file on this guy that could be converted into a novel if anyone would buy the damn thing. Well, maybe in Suffolk and certain parts of City Hall.
