New Rochelle’s Sound Shore Medical Center Applauds Its Women of Excellence

Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester congratulates its Director of Adult Day Services Pearl Hacker, LCSW and Nurse Manager Peggy Coll, NP on being named Women of Excellence by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce

New Rochelle, NY – November 16, 2011 – Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC) congratulates its Director of Adult Day Services Pearl Hacker, LCSW and Nurse Manager Peggy Coll, NP on being named Women of Excellence by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce. At its 10th anniversary celebration, the Chamber again recognized individuals for their exceptional contributions to the community of New Rochelle. Ms. Hacker received recognition as the Business and Professional of the Year while Ms. Coll received her honor in the newly-created category, Culture, Arts and Sciences.

Commenting on the honors, John R. Spicer, President and CEO of Sound Shore Medical Center said, “Ms. Hacker’s enthusiasm for her career and the registrants at Ludington is apparent in everything she does. Those individuals who benefit from her professional as well as personal commitment are fortunate to have her, as is Sound Shore.” He continued, “Ms. Coll has helped create two successful programs – our Surgical Weight Loss Center, which is a Bariatric Center for Excellence, and the newly-opened Advanced Orthopedic and Bariatric Suite. She brings her passion for patient care to everything she does.” He concluded, “Sound Shore Medical Center is proud of their accomplishments and congratulates Pearl Hacker and Peggy Coll on being named 2011 Women of Excellence by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.”

Pearl Hacker, LCSW as Director of Adult Day Services at Sound Shore Medical Center oversees the Program that cares for the needs of participants who have existing health condition or disabilities. Through close supervision, daily assistance and medical care, including rehabilitation, the Program helps the registrants remain in their home setting. This is accomplished while safeguarding an appropriate degree of independence. Individuals enjoy a sense of community while engaged in well-designed activities of exercise, memory training, counseling and peer support, as well as art therapy. In her acceptance speech, Ms. Hacker commented that social work was in her DNA, and that she was humbled to be named a Woman of Excellence.

Nurse Practitioner Peggy Coll is the Nurse Manager of SSMC’s newly-opened Advanced Orthopedic and Bariatric Suite for individuals recovering from total joint replacements and surgical weight loss. In this capacity, she manages a specially-trained team of nurses and functions as nurse practitioner for orthopedics. She uses her more than 25 years of nursing experience to help monitor and oversee the care of those who have chosen surgery to renew their quality of life. In a specially-designed Unit with en-suite physical rehabilitation and latest in patient monitoring and post-surgical techniques, Ms. Coll and her team provide state-of-the-art nursing care. In accepting her Woman of the Year honor, Peggy Coll said as a child she always wanted to be a nurse. In addition, she thanked the Chamber for recognizing her and her family for their support.
